Our Story: A Newtonian Moment
Kid Car NY is what happens when a piece of flying waffle strikes an over-active imagination.After living in NYC for eight years (college/ post college), I moved to San Francisco to ride the dot-com wave (and subsequent crash). In 2002 I was having brunch with friends on the Upper West Side during a visit back to the city when I was hit by a piece of flying waffle hurled by a toddler at the next table. Two of my friends were doctors and we began to talk about the sheer number of kids in the restaurant and New York's car seat laws. I flew home and toyed with the idea of Kid Car NY from afar, but continued my cubicle existence in San Francisco tech firms.
Fast-forward to 2005
While in business school at the U. of Michigan, a friend sent me an article stating that New York finally joined the majority of the states in the US in requiring that children under the age of seven ride in car seats. I dusted off my notes from 3 years earlier, won a few business plan competitions, raised some money from high school friends, and the rest is history.
Today, Kid Car NY is considered by most to be the best car service for children in New York City.
